Treating children, adolescents and families over the past 35 years has fostered my appreciation of the dynamic forces that influence the development of children in our increasingly complex society. Our children need us to provide opportunities for growth in an environment that promotes independence and mastery. Demands on parents have never been greater, while community support continues to erode. I offer the following information and opinions to stimulate thoughtful reflection on a variety of topics related to children and adolescents with the hope that constructive dialogue and decision making will be enhanced.
